Sreenplay - Diary Myers uses two types of narration: script & diary. He is writing a story that looks like a dramatic text, but its only created for reading and not for filming. The script is written from one point of view, a third person omniscient. That shows the distance of Steves experience and himself. I think it makes the novel more exciting and believable.Tough at the beginning of reading its hard to deal with this screenplay format, but with the time you will get in the story and as a consequence it will become very easy to read and understand the idea behind the screenplay.
Between the journal entries and the film scrippt are many jumps and not a simple cronological way of writting. Thus it’s easier to apprehend the background because it is given at that time it is needed, but it’s also a bit confusing and irritating becasue the times are switching all the time. The diary entries, which are handwritten show Steves feelings and emotions. They are written in the I- form to show the privacy of this information. In his entries he writes everything that comes in his mind. You can see how he reacts to the process, the different testimoneys and his thoughts of the life in prison, as well. Additionally you will find out what his fears and hopes are.An important question he allways askes himself is who he is, weather he is guilty and what he can believe himself. During the time he becomes more and more confusing and looses his self-confidence. Other questions he is asking himselfe is weather he is lying to himself, because he says that he is innocent and weather he is a MONSTER, what all they call him.
